Have you tried Hemp Seed Hearts? We have been loving them for a long time, especially since they are low fodmap. They have become a staple in my husband's diet and he eats them every day. They are small, soft, mild in flavor and when baked they have the consistency very similar to oatmeal- so neat! They are also high in protein and omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. You should definitely try them if you haven't.
I know I can always count on Bob's Red Mill to deliver high quality and delicious products and these Hemp Seed Hearts are no exception. They are handled in a dedicated gluten free facility so you can feel confident that they have not been cross contaminated.
A lot of paleo "oatmeal" contains shredded coconut, but we like the Hemp Seed Hearts even more because there is no coconut taste and the texture is absolutely perfect. This breakfast bake is so easy to make. The hemp seed hearts are mixed with SunButter, almond milk (or milk of choice), cinnamon, and eggs. There is no sweetener in it which is something to consider- it's only sweetened from the berries. If you'd like it to be more of a treat, add some maple or honey. Once that is mixed up it's added to the pan and more SunButter is swirled on top along with some smashed raspberries.
Nut Free and Egg Free
Using SunButter makes this nut free, of course you can use whatever nut butter works for you or is your favorite. Of course Hemp Seed Hearts are also nut free. Since they are nut free that means they are safe to send to school with your kids. They would be a fun lunchbox treat (but maybe add a little sweetener). You can replace the eggs with ¾ cup mashed banana, which is 1 medium banana. It also adds a little sweetness.
I do want to note that even though all the ingredients are Whole30 compliant, this dish isn't. Recreations of oatmeal or oatmeal bakes are not allowed, even with compliant ingredients. I'm sorry! Keep this for your life after Whole30.
When I come up with recipe names I do weird Google searches like "what is the difference between jam and jelly" and it turns out jelly is made with just juice and jam is made with fruit. So this is technically closer to jam, but I don't think most people know the difference and the "J" is pbj stands for jelly, so that's why I used that.
Grab some Bob's Red Mill Hemp Seed Hearts and try this bake. The texture is so similar to baked oatmeal and it is a hearty, comforting breakfast. This is easy enough to bake on a weekday morning, or bake ahead to make mornings easier.
Here is another nut free bar that is delicious, and this one is Whole30: Paleo SunButter Protein Bars (RXBAR copycat).

I just wanted to let you know that this recipe has been a lifesaver for me. I use almond butter instead of sunbutter, and this time around, I couldn't handle seeds, so I used a no sugar add cherry preserves for the fruit. I have used this recipe on and off throughout the years and it has gotten me through my recent flare of IBD. I am just so thankful for it and I actually look forward to eating it every morning. I also tp mine with some coconut butter and sliced bananas to sweeten it up a bit. Thanks so much!
